Eyes Wide Open At 40 Winks' Bedtime Stories

image-3This blog post (let's call it a story!) is for those of you whose imagination goes wild. If your childhood memories feature miraculous stories that would keep your eyes wide open rather than send you to sleep, you can bring the bedtime stories sensation back - with a quirky 4o Winks' sitting room as the backdrop instead of your bed, playful nighties instead of comfy pyjamas and fantastic story tellers and musicians to take your breath and imagination away.

Hosted by an eccentric internationally-acclaimed interior designer David Carter in his own home - a historic elegant four-storey townhouse in East London built in 1717 - and now a private micro-hotel oozing shabby chick, wit and charm - Bedtime Stories welcome guests from all over the world who are ready to go an extra mile for their imagination to be teased and pampered.

A rainy evening when I headed to the famous hotel in Mile End with Sarah was perfect for stepping into the warmth of the funky home/hotel for the bedtime stories themed as 'Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Cold'. Welcomed by the very David Carter himself and his wonderful helpers, we couldn't help but notice beautiful details that the house is filled with - from gorgeous lights to colourful cushions. We were then whisked into the kitchen room downstairs where in the candlelight you tease your tastebuds with delicious cocktails and nibbles. Following the mingling, the magic begins.

2014-03-20 19.48.36Having made ourselves comfortable on a vintage sofa, we were joined by two brilliant storytellers - Nell Phoenix and Ana Lines who took the guests’ breath away with their unbelievable stories about revenge. Love, lust, jealousy, blood, and revenge all got into the mix. Not a single guest managed to stay indifferent to the stories - with the storytellers' peculiar animated manner we all deep-dived into the dark fairytales loosing sense of the fact that we were in a sitting room of a gorgeous hotel in Mile End.

Bedtime Stories only take place once a month - you can get the taste of it yourself by attending the next event on the 14th of May. Titled 'The wages of sin: adventures in adultery in Paris and London', it will let you dip into extra-marital pleasure on both sides of the Channel. In the words of David Carter, 'shimmy into your silk peignoir and leave your modesty at the door'... And then look out for the stories about the event surfacing in the British Vogue, Tatler, CN Traveller, Grazia and the likes.;)

Tickets to the Bedtime Stories are priced at £30 and can be booked via reservations@40winks.org
