Pepsi - Challenge Accepted
Cola Wars case study about the outrageous competition between Coke and Pepsi must be the most famous case study at business schools. Coca Cola has been the brand of my childhood in the early post-Soviet times, my teenage years were Pepsi's 'Generation Next' (with Spice Girls commercials of course) and now these two massive brands collide in a case study at Imperial College Business School and I am applying Porter's 'Five forces' analysis to see what was going on behind the scenes while I was reaching out for yet another portion of the fav drink of my youth.
A great thing about Imperial Business School is that it's all about practical experience. Hence just a few minutes into the class on Cola Wars we were re-constructing the famous 'Pepsi Challenge': 3 guys and 2 girls were making their bets on which of the three samples was Cola, which one was Pepsi and which one was some generic type. Result? Guys got all three drinks right. Verdict? Boys know their Coke.
